Book Review: The New Life Ins. Invest. Advisor
Don’t be fooled by the topic of this book. Ben Baldwin’s The New Life Insurance Investment Advisor is a must read.Ben’s book sets out a basic rule for life insurance: life insurance is needed by anyone who has a loved one that would suffer if they were to pass away today. With this rule in mind, this book provides the most comprehensive yet concise summary of life insurance that I have encountered.
In just a few pages, the book provides an overview of term life, whole life, universal life, and variable life insurance policies. The discussion covers basic concepts, such as policy features, tax-free exchanges, funding levels, and expenses. The book then discusses advanced life insurance applications, such as irrevocable life insurance trusts, key person coverage, and business succession planning. The focus is on variable universal life policies, as they offer the most planning opportunities.
The book also devotes several chapters to annuities; however, the annuity section does not include more complicated planning opportunities. The discussion starts with an overview of the different types of annuities, including fixed annuities, variably immediate annuities, fixed deferred annuities, single-premium deferred annuities, and flexible-premium deferred variable annuities. The discussion covers what to look for in annuities, such as expense ratios and surrender charges. The discussion closes with an overview of a few basic annuity planning opportunities.
For just a few dollars, this book really can save you and your family a lot of money. You must read this book if you have purchased, plan on purchasing or you have not purchased life insurance and/or annuities. In fact, you should buy multiple copies of this book - one for yourself and other copies for your loved ones.
